Once upon a time, there was a pretty young girl.... Who thinks she is the queen around here sometimes, but actually is the princess ;) When she was an infant, she had a very pale baby pink nursery, and the decor was so sweet and shabby. When we moved into the duplex rental, the room was already painted a baby blue, so we just kept it that way...However, as she grew and became verbal, her love of PINK was known throughout the kingdom, and so...we MUST paint the room PINK!
I want this room to be able to grow with her, so even though it's going to be ultra girly, it still needs to be somewhat transitional from toddler to young child. I figure if she's 3 1/2 almost 4 (OMG!!!!!!) now, then the next time we will be redoing her room is probably around 9-10. Which will probably involve buying new furniture...for the I'm too cool for pink and girly pre-teen years. So for now, this is what we have done...
The top half of the room still needs to be painted...and then trim, but it's coming along.
It's going to be a more sophisticated pink shabby/ Parisian glamor style room. The lighting is horrible, I took this picture at night (sorry) I will do better, but I had wanted to show you how to paint stripes. So here it goes...
First paint the entire area your "lighter" color, and let it dry completely.
This color is "Ballet Slipper Pink" -Martha Stewart Paint
Next, start at a corner that's LEAST visible, and measure out your stripes, we decided ours were going to be 8''. Just mark around the room with a pencil at this point and mark which stripes will be painted "p".
Now the fun part- not really...Tape your stripes, wherever you marked "p", the tape will be on the OUTSIDE of your marking, this will ensure that all your stripes are uniform. See how it looks like I have thin and fat stripes, you want it to look this way, the thinner ones will be exactly the same width once you pull the tape off.
This next step is THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP...DO NOT SKIP THIS...
With a small brush, paint the inner edges of the taped off stripes. This will (almost) guarantee perfect clean stripes. It basically seals any air pockets that might be there, because lets face it...all walls are textured!
Now its time to paint your wide stripes with the color of choice. We chose Martha Stewarts "Precious Metals Pink Pearl" It has a soft iridescent shimmer to it, very pretty in the day time.
Once you've painted 2 coats, go to where you started and peel the tape off at a 45 degree angle away from the wet paint...YES WET PAINT.
Your end result should be a crisp clean stripe all the way down!
Happy Painting :)
Great idea! This must be why I always have smudges! I take the tape off after its dry!
